SHTF Diet – Harder Than You Might Think
So I have bored you with the details of the SHTF Diet. For the first two weeks, I gave details of what we ate each day and meal boring stuff. It was much harder than you might think. We have finished the entire 30 days I just haven’t had the time to document each day. Here are some of the highlights of the final two weeks.
Day 15 – After a breakfast of oatmeal Kas gave Scott a tour of the tunnels. He had no idea we could go from house to barn without going outside. I was off cutting firewood so lunch for me consisted of trail mix and jerky. After exploring the tunnel system the kids went fishing and brought home a couple good catfish. Guess what we had for dinner? Fried catfish rice and beans with corncakes.
Days 16 – 17 More oatmeal for breakfast and jerky for lunch. Dinner was rice and beans with fresh vegetables from the garden. Yes, I am getting tired of rice and beans.
Making A Long Story Short
During the remainder of this experiment, we had oatmeal for breakfast every morning, rice and or beans for dinner. There were some exceptions when we had beans with canned meat added or made into chili recipe here.
What We Have Learned
We found that weight loss is unavoidable that you can live on rice and beans indefinitely.
I lost 17.5 pounds, Scott lost 12 pounds, Kas lost 6 pounds and my wife was very happy with her 12 pound loss not that she needed to lose it.
The experiment in our opinion was a success and we have learned to adjust some of our food needs. Living on survival foods may be harder than you might think.
